Red Onion Tavern
About This Spot
Walking into Red Onion Tavern, you immediately step into a space that feels like a well-worn conversation among old friends—familiar, unpretentious, and quietly comforting. This is the kind of neighborhood bar where the pace slows down just enough for you to catch your breath after a busy day. Warmth radiates not only from the glowing fireplace but also from the easy camaraderie that spills over from the worn wooden bar and battered pool tables.
The atmosphere is thoughtfully unpolished; here, the charm comes from authenticity rather than pretense. It’s a refuge for those who appreciate the honest appeal of a dive bar—the kind of place still rooted in its community and proud of its character. Expect a relaxed buzz, where the clink of cheap beers and the rattle of a pinball machine mingle with friendly chatter. There’s a sense of welcome in the air, anchored by bartenders who know most faces by name and bring a relatable warmth even on the busiest nights.
Food at Red Onion Tavern complements this straightforward spirit—no need for elaborate menus or fancy plating. The pizza, served fresh and hearty, sits perfectly alongside a hard cider or a well-priced beer, making it easy to settle in and savor moments rather than meals. Sandwiches and casual bites offer simple satisfaction that fits the laid-back vibe.
What gives Red Onion its soul is not just what’s on the menu or behind the bar, but the rhythm of everyday life played out here—Mariners fans gathering around the TV, impromptu pool games, and quiet evenings warmed by firelight. It’s a place where the walls hold stories and the people inside add new chapters every night, offering a quiet kind of belonging that’s rare in the city’s fast-moving scene.

surprised so many have had bad experiences. i've been here dozens of times, and yeah, its a dive bar - don't expect prompt and friendly service - but good beers are $5.50 (which insanely, is almost half price in this town anymore), and there's actually legit baseball fans who like to go here and watch the Mariners! its so refreshing that a few places like this still exist. obviously, its not for everyone.

Happened to be in the neighborhood on a weeknight. We walked by this place, thought it was interesting, so we decided to grab a couple beers. Great dive bar that's chill, laid back, and a great place to hang out. It was a chilly day when we stopped by, so the fireplace was lit and kept the area warm and cozy. Friendly service - bartender stopped by a couple times to check in on us. Cheap beers too! Would recommend.

Saddle up for the best dive on the east side of I-5. Cozy fire place, pool, pizza and premier company.

A fun old school neighborhood bar! The pool tables are rough, but a good time was had by all
